Events in School

Please take a look at our upcoming events below, to keep up to date with all that's happening in school...

EVENTS 2023 - 2024

School Closure for Staff Training

Advance notice: please note that school will be closed for children on Wednesday 26th June 2024.

This is to allow staff to undertake essential training on this day.

We are giving as much notice as possible in order to limit any inconvenience this may cause.

BIG LENT WALK

During the final week of this term, each class will be heading out on their annual ‘Big Lent Walk’, to help raise money for Cafod - a charity which provides aid overseas.

Your donations can change lives. Every £1 raised through the Big Lent Walk will help fight poverty globally in countries like Afghanistan, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan.

Our target is to raise £200 as a whole school, so please donate as generously as you can.

Early Reading Workshops for Parents & Carers

Parents & Carers of children in Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 are invited to join us in class for a reading lesson with your child, on Thursday 7th March.

This will be a chance to see how children learn to read in school, and spend some time with your child on reading activities. Teachers will be able to offer advice with how you can support your child's progress in reading at home too.

As you know, this is SUCH an important aspect of children's early education, and supporting them with their reading - and developing a love of reading - can be the key to success in school, and later on in life.

Thank you for your support - please do join us if you can. We look forward to seeing you!

World Book Day

On Thursday 7th March, we will celebrate World Book Day in school!

Children are invited to dress up and take part in a range of fun activities to celebrate the joy of reading!

We will also hold an exciting 'Story in a Box' competition with some wonderful must-read books as prizes for children in every class!

Number Day 2024

🌷 Spring Cleaning Sale'! 🌷

🌷 We are planning a 'Spring Cleaning Sale'!
🌷 If you are having a spring clean at home and have any unwanted items, we would be very grateful for donations of household items, clothes, books, games, toys etc.
🌷 The sale will take place during the first week back after half term, so please send in your donations at anytime before then.
🌷 Thank you for your support

Phonics & Early Reading - Meeting for Parents

📕We invite Early Years & Key Stage One parents to join us in school to find out more about how children are taught phonics at Our Lady & St Patrick's.
📗This will be a chance to drop in and enjoy a coffee, and meet with Miss Foster and Miss Nicholson, who will talk you through how the children are taught in school and give you some ideas on how you can best support this at home.
📙 The session will run either at the end of the school day, to make this as convenient for you as as possible.
📘In addition, our phonics and early reading scheme - ‘Success for All Phonics’ - has a really useful parent portal, which includes free resources and online reading books to share at home, at the exact level suitable for your child. We will give you more details and login information at the meeting, so you can start to access this super resource at home.
📔 Our school website also has a wealth of information on phonics and early reading - including information for parents and carers on all aspects of this vital stage in children's learning - so please do take a look by following the link below.
📕 Reading is the key to opening so many doors for children, and is at the heart of all our learning here at OLASP. We know that, as parents and carers, you also recognise how important it is for children to get the very best start as readers - being a keen and fluent reader really is a gift that will last them a lifetime! 💝

'Number Day' - In Aid of the NSPCC

We are delighted to be supporting the NSPCC by taking part in Number Day on Friday 2nd February.

Number Day is a great way to make maths fun and bring about a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude towards it. We are having a fun day with exciting Maths activities included throughout the day.

We will also be taking part in Dress up for Digits. Pupils can choose to wear an item of clothing with a number on it (football shirt, cap, netball shirt). Or get even more creative by dressing in a maths or numbers theme. This is completely optional and non-school uniform is fine, if preferred. To help raise money for the NSPCC, we are asking for donations of £1.

We’re really looking forward to all the fun of Number Day, and we really appreciate your support. All the money we raise at will make an enormous difference to children today and help the NSPCC be there for children tomorrow.

Celebrating Black History Month - October 2023

❤️ Black History Month 2023 is a momentous occasion to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions of black people to British society.

🧡 However, despite their countless contributions to society, the achievements of black women, in particular, have too often been overlooked or forgotten. That is why, this year, we will be celebrating the exceptional achievements of black women.

💚 The theme of ‘Saluting our Sisters’ highlights the crucial role that black women have played in shaping history, inspiring change, and building communities. This year’s celebration will showcase pioneering black women who have made remarkable contributions to literature, music, fashion, sport, business, politics, academia, social and health care, and more.

❤️ Throughout October, each class will learn about the significant achievements of women such as Rosa Parks, Mary Seacole, Maya Angelou, Floella Benjamin & Beverley Knight, before coming together at the end of the month, to celebrate all we have discovered about these amazing women!

EVENTS 2022 - 2023

🌟 OLASP School Uniform Exchange🌟

🔹In recent times, family budgets are being stretched to the limit - and we can all do with a little extra help.

🔹 School uniforms can often cost a lot of money so, with this in mind, we will make pre-used uniform items in good condition available to all our families, free of charge, before we finish for the summer. We hope this will assist you with the cost of school uniform for next year.

🔹 It’s simple - just bring in your pre-loved uniform and exchange it for the next size up! All items will be in good condition and free of charge - so why not come along and stock up for the year ahead?!

🔹 All items donated will be available during the last two weeks of term (Monday 10th to Wednesday 19th July), in the school hall at the beginning and end of the day.

🔹 Please send in any unwanted uniform items - which MUST be washed and in good condition, please. Alternatively, just bring them along with you on the day to swap for a bigger size. If you don't have any uniform to exchange, please come along anyway and help yourself to uniform items for next year - there's always plenty to go round!

🔹 Good for our pockets - and good for the planet!!!
