School Council

Our School Council 2023 - 2024

Our school council represents the views of all of our pupils and has a representative from each class (Year One to Year Six).

The School Council representatives put themselves forward for the role at the beginning of the year, and are voted in by their peers.  The children all take great pride in being elected for this important role, displaying all the qualities needed to be a fantastic school council member.

The School Council attend regular meetings in school and some of their jobs include organising fundraising for charities and raising money for school projects. The School Council work on improving our school, sharing ideas and helping teachers to create a positive, inviting environment through pupil voices and views.

The School Council are helped in their work by one of our talented Teaching Assistants, Mrs Standley, who does a brilliant job in organising the work of our busy School Council!

Our School Council went to meet the Mayor in the Town Council chambers.

The children enjoyed the opportunity to ask the Mayor lots of questions about her role. They then explained the work they do in their role as school councillors and the Mayor linked the children’s role with her own, as a civic duty.

Everyone had a chance to sit in the Mayor’s chair and had their picture taken wearing her chain of office.

The children learned that a new park is being built in Maryport and were asked to draw their ideas of what they would like the new park to look like. The Mayor judged their designs, with three children being picked for a prize. The children finished off the visit with juice and biscuits, before setting off back to school.

Thank you so much to the Mayor and to Maryport Town Council for inviting us, we had a wonderful morning!
