Adapting the curriculum and learning environment for children with SEND

  • Class Teachers plan lessons according to the specific needs of all groups of children in their class. They will ensure that learning tasks are adjusted so that your child can access their learning as independently as possible at their level.
  • Adaptations to the curriculum and environment are made according to the needs of the child. Some examples are:
  • Re-arranging the classroom to create an personal workstation for a child
  • Providing a quiet space and sensory breaks
  • Equipment to aid attention such as a wobble seat and fidget toys

  • Some children may benefit from small group work with more specific targets which may take place inside or outside the classroom. Children with social and emotional needs may be offered additional 1:1 counselling or Emotional Literacy Support.
  • A few children will follow specialist programmes of teaching devised with the help of outside professionals
