The Common Good

At Our Lady & St Patricks, we are committed to working together to contribute to the 'common good' of our community and society as a whole. This is in response to the Church's teaching on social justice.

  • We are committed to raising money for those less fortunate.
  • We look for ways to help people within our local community and beyond.
  • We do this work as a whole school, in groups and as individuals.

We make it a priority to support as many charitable causes as possible, throughout the school year. We endeavour to support these charitable causes wherever, whenever and however we can.

Our children and families are always keen to help & support  others who are perhaps less fortunate than ourselves for, as Jesus taught us:

'It is more blessed to give than to receive'

Acts 20:35

We have several groups in school who are responsible for undertaking charitable works & initiatives that help us to care for our world and for each other.

Please click the icons to find out more about the work of each group.

Caring for Our world and for Each Other

Our Children are always keen to initiate and take part in activities to make a difference to our world and help others; this can be school-wide, or in support of initiatives in our local area, as well as on a national and international level.

Please see below our schedule of opportunities for children to participate in 'Caring for Our World and for Each Other'

CAFOD - Brighten Up for Harvest (20th October 2022)

❀️ This Harvest time, we are 'Brightening Up' for CAFOD! Our school community will join thousands of others to help tackle hunger around the world.

πŸ’œ We would like all children to wear their very brightest clothes for school on this day, in support of CAFOD. We are asking for donations towards fighting hunger all around the world. Suggested donation of £1 per family, but please donate whatever you can afford - every little makes a difference. Reverse Advent Calendar Initiative - November 2022

πŸ’™ Our Ethos Group are working with each class, to produce 'Reverse Advent Calendars' to support worthy or charitable causes chosen by each class. In this way, instead of receiving a gift each day (as you would in an advent calendar) children will donate a small gift to help others.
πŸ’™ Over the next few weeks, your child will be given a number by their teacher. Please could you send a small item into school - something not too expensive - just a little treat that could make someone happy. This should be linked to your child's year group charity e.g. biscuits, bubble bath, doggy chews, coffee, tea, colouring books.
πŸ’™ How it Works: Each class will collect items up until Christmas, to gift to their charity or cause. So, if your child is given number 1, please send in your gift on the 1st of November, number 2 on the second of November etc. The box will be full by the end of the month and then the ethos group children will deliver these in time for advent.
πŸ’™ Here are the Charities each year has chosen to support:

✨ Reception- West Cumberland Children's Ward
✨ Year 1- RSPCA
✨ Year 2- The Dale's Care Home, Maryport
✨ Year 3- Mind
✨ Year 4- Allerdale and Copeland Autism Support
✨ Year 5- Dog's Trust
✨ Year 6- Hospice at Home

Colour Run - Grand Total!

🌈 We were joined by Gemma from Hospice at Home in our celebration assembly, who came in to tell us how much we raised in our Colour Run last term.

🌈 We were thrilled and delighted to learn that we raised a total of £3,416.65, in aid of this wonderful charity!!

🌈 Our Head Boy and Head Girl were presented with the cheque, on behalf of our school, in their first ‘official’ role of the school year.

🌈 Well done children, and a huge thank you to everyone who supported us in raising this amazing total - we’re looking forward to this being an annual summer event!
