Reception
Ready to learn...
When your child is in the year they turn 5, they will be in our Reception class. These children will have a balance of activities such as phonics, writing, reading and maths together with essential play-based activities, through 'discovery time' in the big room.
In Reception, our aim is to prepare children for their next phase of learning and help them to be ready for the move into a new Key Stage. To do this, we focus our morning activities on key learning in reading, writing and maths. Each afternoon, Reception children have time dedicated to Learning through Play where they can expand, explore and express themselves and their interests.
Our Reception children also begin to join the rest of school for whole-school activities such as assemblies, music and sports sessions. They learn from their peer role models at these times, sharing the understanding that age and experience brings.
