Our Lady and St. Patrick's Catholic Primary School Part of the Mater Christi Multi-Academy Trust

Working Walls

Working Walls are an imperative part of the writing learning journey and are a key feature in every classroom at Our Lady & St Patrick's. These working walls are built up during the week, displaying images from the text along with high level vocabulary, a range of openers and examples of the key skills children are currently learning.

It is essential that the working walls are interactive so that they actively scaffold children's daily learning, and are produced as a result of class discussion.

Vocabulary should be an integral part of the working wall and children should be encouraged to COPY any new or unknown words (until these words are known and can be spelled independently). Children can also be held to account with any words that are copied down incorrectly!

Children should also be encouraged to take ideas directly from the wall and from the WAGOLL and shared writing, to use in their own writing.
