Guardian Angels

Our Guardian Angels

The work of our Guardian Angels is an amalgamation of the Corporal Works of Mercy, which underpin the ethos of our school, and a response to the Laudato Si' encyclical.

The Corporal Works of Mercy are acts of kindness by which we help our neighbours with their material and physical needs. We should: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, visit the sick, visit the imprisoned and bury the dead.

Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’, is an invitation to everyone on the planet to care for our common home. Pope Francis challenges us to consider the kind of world we want to leave to those who come after us. The encyclical discusses the damage being inflicted on the Earth by humans and calls on ‘every person living on this planet’ to make urgent changes to our lifestyles.

At our group meetings, children will bring and share ideas from their friends and classmates that will enhance our RE Curriculum, the ethos of our school and the care for our Common Home.

Some key roles for the Guardian Angels are:

  • Enhancing our RE lessons by focusing on the 'wonder why' element
  • Be responsible for meeting any visitors in school who are linked to our church or parish and help to show them around our school
  • Develop RE and worship areas in the outdoor environment (quiet reflection areas)
  • Writing Bidding Prayers for Church
  • Preparing special worship for eg. Remembrance, Harvest, Advent
  • Charitable work
  • Helping with child-led worship
  • KS2 children preparing the hall and prayer table for whole-school worship, such as 'Wednesday Word'
  • Improving recycling in school
  • Looking after our school grounds
  • Walk to School week
