What is an EHCP?

An Education, Health and Care plan (EHC plan) is a legal document which:

 

  • identifies your child's special educational needs
  • the additional or specialist provision (support, therapy etc) required to meet their needs
  • the outcomes (capabilities, achievements) the provision should help them to achieve
  • the placement (the school or college they should attend).

From requesting a EHC assessment to the issuing of a final EHC plan should take no longer than 20 weeks.  For an extract from the SEND Code of Practice, 2015, showing the deadlines for each stage, including when a right of appeal must be given to the parents, see below.
