Our Lady and St. Patrick's Catholic Primary School Part of the Mater Christi Multi-Academy Trust

Home Visits

Our Lady and St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School recognises the importance of establishing a close relationship with families. Home visits are an important part of the transition process into school and a positive way to create a welcoming and supportive learning relationship with families, so that all children are able to get the very best from their time at school.

Aim of Home Visits

•To meet the child and their family in their home environment and to establish a warm and caring relationship before the child starts school. This helps to ease the transition into school.

• Supports the gathering of information about the child, which assists with a smoother transition into school. This information will help us to get to know the child’s skills, interests and needs.

• Allows staff to observe and gain an understanding of the child’s skills and interests.

• To share information about OLASP and to answer any questions

What happens during a Home Visit?

The staff will use the home visit as a means of talking to the family, gaining information about the child and answering any questions the family may have. There will be paperwork completed/collected during this time, including contact details, permissions, collection details and an “All About Me” questionnaire.

The additional staff member will play with the child which gives them insight into the child and an understanding of their interests and development.  It also gives children the chance to get to know their keyworker/teacher on a one-to-one basis and begin to establish a relationship.

The home visit lasts approximately 30 minutes.
