Your donations can change lives. Every £1 raised through the Big Lent Walk will help fight poverty globally in countries like Afghanistan, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan.

Our target is to raise £200 as a whole school, so please donate as generously as you can.

Early Reading Workshops for Parents & Carers

Parents & Carers of children in Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 are invited to join us in class for a reading lesson with your child, on Thursday 7th March.

This will be a chance to see how children learn to read in school, and spend some time with your child on reading activities. Teachers will be able to offer advice with how you can support your child's progress in reading at home too.

As you know, this is SUCH an important aspect of children's early education, and supporting them with their reading - and developing a love of reading - can be the key to success in school, and later on in life.

Thank you for your support - please do join us if you can. We look forward to seeing you!

World Book Day

On Thursday 7th March, we will celebrate World Book Day in school!

Children are invited to dress up and take part in a range of fun activities to celebrate the joy of reading!

⭐ Phonics & Early Reading - Meeting for Parents ⭐

πŸ“•We invite Early Years & Key Stage One parents to join us in school to find out more about how children are taught phonics at Our Lady & St Patrick's.
πŸ“—This will be a chance to drop in and enjoy a coffee, and meet with Miss Foster and Miss Nicholson, who will talk you through how the children are taught in school and give you some ideas on how you can best support this at home.
πŸ“™ The session will run either at the end of the school day, to make this as convenient for you as as possible.
πŸ“˜In addition, our phonics and early reading scheme - ‘Success for All Phonics’ - has a really useful parent portal, which includes free resources and online reading books to share at home, at the exact level suitable for your child. We will give you more details and login information at the meeting, so you can start to access this super resource at home.
πŸ“” Our school website also has a wealth of information on phonics and early reading - including information for parents and carers on all aspects of this vital stage in children's learning - so please do take a look by following the link below.
πŸ“• Reading is the key to opening so many doors for children, and is at the heart of all our learning here at OLASP. We know that, as parents and carers, you also recognise how important it is for children to get the very best start as readers - being a keen and fluent reader really is a gift that will last them a lifetime! πŸ’

'Number Day' - In Aid of the NSPCC

We are delighted to be supporting the NSPCC by taking part in Number Day on Friday 2nd February.

Number Day is a great way to make maths fun and bring about a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude towards it. We are having a fun day with exciting Maths activities included throughout the day.

We will also be taking part in Dress up for Digits. Pupils can choose to wear an item of clothing with a number on it (football shirt, cap, netball shirt). Or get even more creative by dressing in a maths or numbers theme. This is completely optional and non-school uniform is fine, if preferred. To help raise money for the NSPCC, we are asking for donations of £1.

We’re really looking forward to all the fun of Number Day, and we really appreciate your support. All the money we raise at will make an enormous difference to children today and help the NSPCC be there for children tomorrow.

πŸ’š The theme of ‘Saluting our Sisters’ highlights the crucial role that black women have played in shaping history, inspiring change, and building communities. This year’s celebration will showcase pioneering black women who have made remarkable contributions to literature, music, fashion, sport, business, politics, academia, social and health care, and more.

❀️ Throughout October, each class will learn about the significant achievements of women such as Rosa Parks, Mary Seacole, Maya Angelou, Floella Benjamin & Beverley Knight, before coming together at the end of the month, to celebrate all we have discovered about these amazing women!

πŸ’™ This is a charity that supports children across Africa, providing hungry children with life-changing school meals.
πŸ’™ Until the end of January, all donations are match-funded, so £1 becomes £2 and this means that £15.90 will feed TWO children for a whole year!
πŸ’™ Raffle tickets and a lucky number on the hundred square will each cost £1 - we would be delighted if you could help us to make a difference to the lives of children across Africa. Please support us if you can πŸ™

πŸ’™ Donations of raffle prizes would also be gratefully received.
