Individual Writing Targets
In order to accurately assess children's progress in writing, we use individual, half- termly writing targets for children in Year 1 to 6.
These writing targets are broken down carefully and incrementally, to allow us to gain a clear picture of children's progress towards achieving age-related expectations in writing.
Teachers carefully assess children's written work, using these targets, to gather a clear picture of their progress and attainment in writing each half term, across the texts and genres taught.
Weekly, independent 'Star Writing' each Friday allows children to apply the skills they have been taught during the week, and allows teachers to assess how well these skills have been grasped.
Writing targets are closely aligned to the planning for 'I am a Clever Writer', which ensures accurate formative assessment of children's ongoing acquisition of writing skills. It also means that assessment is fully embedded within the plan-teach-assess-review learning sequence.
